BOOK REVIEW: Both of Us by Adele Parks

THIS BOOK. THIS AUTHOR.

SYNOPSIS:

Happy. Married. Missing.

Leigh Fletcher: happily married stepmum to two gorgeous boys goes missing on Monday. Her husband Mark says he knows nothing of her whereabouts. She simply went to work and just never came home. Their family is shattered.

Kai Janssen: married to wealthy Dutch businessman, Daan, vanishes the same week. Kai left their luxurious penthouse and glamorous world without a backward glance. She seemingly evaporated into thin air. Daan is distraught.

DC Clements knows that people disappear all the time – far too frequently. Most run away from things, some run towards, others are taken but find their way back. A sad few never return. These two women are from very different worlds, their disappearances are unlikely to be connected. And yet, at a gut level, the DC believes they might be.

How could these women walk away from their families, husbands and homes willingly? Clements is determined to unearth the truth, no matter how shocking and devastating it may be.

So the previous book I have read of Adele Parks is ‘Just My Luck’ which I read in 48 hours. I did the exact same with this book. There is something about Parks’ writing that is so fluid. The plot twists leave your mouth agape but not enough so that it’s not believable. It’s fair to say I had high expectations heading into this novel, but I absolutely was not disappointed.

What I loved about this book, and the author’s other book I have read, is the constant plot twists. Not always a huge twist but even just the subtle twists that make you go ‘ooohhhhh’ or make you pull a shocked face that you hope no one saw! I have always considered myself somewhat of a book detective, figuring out who has committed the crime or who is to blame. About half way through the book I suspected correctly about who was to blame for the vanishings of these two ladies, but I constantly doubted myself because of the constant upheaval of the plot and the new bouts of information which subtly get thrown into the text.

Another great thing about ‘Both of Us’ is that it’s not a ridiculously heavy or scary thriller. Yes, it is a thriller, but not one that I can only read in the day (sometimes I get scared, okay?!) It was a genuine page-turner and I am so glad I still have another Adele Parks novel to read!

I think my rating on this is obvious…
